Christians United Outreach Center,
located at 135 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, North Carolina, is Randolph
County’s faith based community supported financial crisis
intervention center. Over thirteen years serving the public, one
hundred and twenty plus churches have joined the Center to help
folks in time of need. “Meeting people at their point of
need, following the example of Christ” is our mission. This
is accomplished with a world-class crisis intervention program,
two homeless programs, and a program to provide help to dislocated
workers.
CUOC has a pantry with both food and non-food
items and the Thrift
Store provides with clothing, furniture, household
items and more. Financial Crisis Intervention is available with
basic needs such as rent and mortgage, utilities, medication,
auto repair and the like. The financial assistance program allows
families and individuals continue to be safe, clean and warm in
their homes while continuing to work or take care of other business.
CUOC has two Homeless Programs:
- Project Independence, a transitional
housing program allows families and individuals to move from a
homeless situation to independent living over a two-year period.
Supportive services, rent, utilities and other basic expenses
are provided as people transition from total assistance to paying
their own bills. A volunteer mentor provides much needed encouragement
for participants while in the program and family counseling along
with other family services is provided as well.
- Room In The Inn aids the homeless when churches,
in a spirit of hospitality, open their hearts to take in our homeless
neighbors. RITI is a 365 / night only program located in a permanent
location where volunteers from host churches serve as innkeepers,
cooks, and friends.
CUOC’s Project New Start is a partnership with Randolph
Community College to assist workers who have been displaced due
to no fault of their own. The Center is the portal for the program
and assist with supportive services and situation management.
The Community College does the job assessment, training and helps
the worker certify is a new vocation.
CUOC is funded by Member Congregations, Individuals
and Business, Denominational Headquarters, United Way of Randolph
County, US Federal Emergency Management Agency, US Department
of Housing and Urban Development, US Department of Labor, Blue
Cross, Blue Shield, Federal Compassion Grant, Civic Clubs and
our own, CUOC Thrift Shop.
